Brief Biographies of the Elder Candidates for 2016-2017:

Dave Greer

Family Info: married 37 years to Suzanne, 4 adult children, and 7 grandchildren.

I was baptized at West Van Baptist in 1988, which began a never ending spiritual journey which has included home groups, men's bible studies, leadership, and many Christian conferences.

My relationship with the Lord is continuing along a gradual ascending slope with lots of valleys along the way. I love the Word and continue to be challenged by what it means to surrender completely. I have been particularly stretched by Coffee Time and in coming to understand my own brokenness and marginalization. I see how the Lord wants me to step out in complete faith and trust so that His Spirit can work through me.

I have been at NSAC 19 years and have served as an elder, home group leader, and at Coffee Time. I see God at work in the Women's bible study, our home groups, children’s ministry, youth and young adults, but I am especially passionate about our local missions to community through Coffee time, School BBQ's, Street soccer, City Fest, etc. God is at work in our church volunteers/staff as we experience Jesus' transforming power in the people we are reaching out to in the community.

James Chao

Family info: I have been married 20+ years to Caroline, with two university-aged sons (Joshua and Nathan). We have lived in North Vancouver since 1997 and attended NSAC since 2002.

I was born in Taiwan but spent my formative years in Vancouver, where I attended elementary school on through to university. I grew up in a family environment where hard work, honesty, loyalty and achievement were highly-held virtues. Although bigger questions regarding life and spirituality were not discussed at home, my introduction to God’s grace and love by a childhood friend marked the start of my relationship with Jesus Christ, and subsequent baptism in Grade Ten. While my spiritual journey ebbed and flowed as I progressed through life (i.e. student, young adult, marriage, children etc.), I experienced renewed spiritual growth recently when I felt compelled by the Holy Spirit to move beyond family cultural barriers and share my faith with my dying father. I am now at peace in knowing that my earthly father is in Heaven, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour.

It is with this renewed sense of spiritual boldness and enthusiasm that I serve on the Elders Board of NSAC. By first seeking to know and love Christ, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to make Him known to the North Shore community.

Jayson Eisenhauer

Family info: I have been married to Christy for 12 years and we have two kids: Wesley (7) & Audrey (5).

I prayed to become a Christian around the age of 5 while watching a TV evangelist with my Dad! Soon after that, my parents began attending North Shore Alliance Church. I grew up here –throughout elementary and high school I spent lots of time around this church. From Vacation Bible School, to Youth Group and Young Adults.

In my early twenties I did not attend church too much. God graciously brought me and my family back to North Shore Alliance about nine years ago. Connecting with new folks, as well as reconnecting with old friends has been fantastic. I love the way the people in our church care for one another.

Over the years, I have served in the worship ministry, ushering, and leading small groups. The opportunity to serve as an elder is an opportunity for growth, to listen and learn from others while God continues to shape me. My prayer is that God will use me in this role to serve and honour Him.

Melissa Mitchell

Family info: I am married to Rob and we have one grown daughter, Robyn.

I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, to a Methodist church-going family.  I met and married my husband Rob in South Africa 30 years ago while I was studying in Cape Town, and our daughter Robyn was born there in 1990.  We moved to Canada in 1994, and lived in Kelowna, North Vancouver and Yellowknife.  On returning to North Vancouver in 2005, we settled into NSAC’s community life and service.

At NSAC, significant change in my life was initiated through the Celebrate Recovery ministry, which I joined in 2006, and because I was so blessed by it I continued as a participant and leader in this ministry through 2013.  Since I retired in 2008, I have been involved in a number of NSAC ministries including Wednesday morning women’s Bible study groups and Coffee Time.

I appreciate the opportunity to serve on the Elders Board because I am excited about the future of NSAC.  I believe the Lord’s desire is to heal and transform His people, and He is working powerfully in and through the leaders and congregants at NSAC to effect these changes.

Ronnie Scott

Family info: I have been married to Maree for 25 years, and we have one son, Nik (19).

After a few years at Sunday School I spent my school years actively atheistic, but after three God moments, I encountered and gave my life to Jesus at the age of 16. Since then I have been involved deeply in church - leading Home Groups, serving in a variety of ministries, and sharing my life with the body of Christ. God has been the centre of my life; Jesus - my saviour and guide; the Holy Spirit - my teacher and intercessor; and the Church - my family for 30+ years, and for this I am immeasurably thankful.

For the last 10 years my family and I have been at North Shore Alliance church, where I have been involved in the Worship Ministry team (running Sound), leading a Home Group in our house, serving as an Elder for 6 years, involved in men’s ministries, and serving in many other ministries as I have been able. My family, Maree and Nik, have also been deeply involved in a number of ministries in the church, and Nik is now attending full-time Biblical studies at Columbia Bible College in Abbotsford.

I am excited by the continuing growth and maturity I see throughout our Church at NSAC. The recent involvement in ground-roots ministries, such as sponsoring the Refugee Family, as well as generous support for the building update project, are small examples of the kind of active Church in which I want to be involved. I have also been thrilled to see how many ways God has extended His Kingdom into our community, city, country and the world, through the direct actions of His people in this church.

Wendy Wray

Family Info: I have been married to Alex for 27 years, and we have been blessed with 3 children: Adam (21), Danielle (19.5) and Samuel (15). We have lived on the North Shore since 1993.

I trusted Jesus Christ as my Saviour at a young age and was baptized when I was 14. I grew up in Southern Alberta, and moved to BC when I attended Trinity Western University. It was at TWU where I was challenged that “faith can’t be outsourced - it has to be your own” (as opposed to my parents’). Although it was not my major, I took as many Biblical Studies courses as I could, and participated in many discipleship opportunities. Looking back, I am very grateful for this time as it gave me a firm foundation of faith from which to face the numerous challenges, disappointments, trials and storms that I have faced throughout my adult life. Through it all I have been sustained by the abiding presence of Jesus. I continue to work out my faith each day.

I’ve attended North Shore Alliance Church from 1993-2006 and again from 2013 to present. Over that time I have served in numerous capacities at NSAC: worship team and choir member, in the nursery and children’s ministry, Morning Break small group leader, and most recently on the Connect Women’s Ministry Leadership Team. Professionally, I am the managing partner and co-founder of Wray Consulting Group Inc, a leadership and organizational development consulting firm. I have 30 years of experience in marketing, sales, business management and operations.

I am excited about the vision, values and direction of North Shore Alliance Church and would be humbled to use the gifts that God has given me to serve the members of this community of faith.
