We would like to take this opportunity to update you on a few recent activities at OBK Children. Your support of this organization allows for the complete care of 88 children in the Pageri region of South Sudan. We directly support Julius and Martina Otto who have dedicated their lives to helping their homeland. Please take the time to read this newsletter.
Donation Processing:
OBK Children is switching its online donation process from Paypal to Chimp. Chimp is simply easier to use and will make it much easier to provide tax receipts in a timely manner. We would greatly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to setup an account and switch your donation processing over to Chimp.
Please simply cancel your Paypal donations from your Paypal account – www.paypal.com, then go to www.obkchildren.org/donate and click “donate today.” You will be brought to a sign up page at www.chimp.net. Please create an account with your current email address. Chimp will email you to confirm, once you click the link in the email your account is setup. Please then proceed to https://chimp.net/login - login and follow the prompts for your donation details. We greatly appreciate your work in helping us with this switch. Meeting with Julius in Kampala, Uganda:
David Emri recently traveled to Kampala, Uganda to meet with OBK Children Julius Otto and Advisory Board member Joseph Lasuru. Unfortunately, due to civil unrest it was not possible for him to visit the OBK Children site. Dave spent several days with the team to discuss the current issues and future plans.
Julius continues to struggle with back pain but has been receiving treatment which is allowing him to work. For the first time in many years Julius and Martina were able to take some time off with their family for a short vacation in Zanzibar, Tanzania, before their big move from Uganda to the OBK Children site.
Please continue to keep Julius and family in your prayers as Martina is now beginning her campaign for politics in the region and the family is organizing and planning their move to OBK Children site. Please also pray for their son Daniel who has autism and needs extra care.
Country Update:
Unfortunately, South Sudan continues to be in a state of war which began over a year ago. Early March looked hopeful with advanced peace talks but unfortunately those and other attempts continue to break down. We remain hopeful increased pressure from the international community will help end this crisis.
Missionary Home Update:
Final touches are now being completed on the house in preparation for the Otto Family’s move, including; painting and plumbing. We now anticipate their move in during the month of June assuming it is safe to do so. This milestone move will be a great blessing for the organization and the children.
Bathroom Building Project:
We continue to advance the much needed bathroom building however, we have run into some delays with the needed materials currently sitting at the Uganda border waiting for it to be safe enough to travel to our site.
Sustainable Farming Operations:
We are currently raising funds to purchase the needed equipment and seeds for the sustainable farming project at the OBK Children site. Please visit the website if you would like to be part of this amazing project.
Fundraising:
Our monthly operating budget continues to be a challenge which is additionally being affected by the US$ exchange rate. Remember 100% of all funds donated to OBK Children end up with Julius & Martina and the children in South Sudan and that OBK Children is a registered Canadian charity and all donations are eligible to be tax deductible.
The future capital projects we are considering include: new bed mats for the children, updated educational materials, a computer for the administrator, and a solar generating system.
